We have some incredible people on the HRU team, and we think it is time for you to get to know them better. We’re kicking off our employee spotlight series to introduce you to the people behind the work. No corporate fluff, just real conversations about who they are, what they do, and why they do it.

First up: technical recruiter Brian McIntosh.

If you’re a Veteran that’s been hired by HRU in the past decade, there’s a decent chance Brian had something to do with it. For the last ten years, he’s been the kind of recruiter who remembers names, follows up, and cares about getting the right people in the right roles. But what really sets him apart is his unwavering commitment to hiring Veterans.

“Veterans need someone who understands where they came from,” Brian says. “I like to be the bridge to finding meaningful employment after serving.” It’s not just a tagline either. As a former Army sergeant who served in Iraq and Afghanistan, he knows firsthand what that transition looks like. He knows the strengths Veterans bring to a team that sometimes go unrecognized in the typical hiring process. More importantly, he knows how to find them and help them land roles where they can thrive.

When asked about recent “wins” Brian mentioned he recently placed seven employees for a new military vehicle program. What made it special wasn’t just the volume. Five of the hires already knew each other, and they’d be working alongside someone Brian had helped place years ago. “It’s nice getting the right group of people together to work on military programs,” he reflected. “Our military is the best and deserve the best equipment.”

Before recruiting at HRU, Brian was working at a credit union, but he was looking for something more. When his brother and sister-in-law recommended him for a recruiting role, he took the shot. “I wanted a position where I had more earning potential and a motivator to grow,” he said. A conversation with Zach, Aaron, and Tim later, he was hired. He’s been here ever since.

Outside the office, Brian’s life centers around his family. He has a 13-year-old son and him and his wife are active in their community, volunteering and staying involved. Weekends often mean day trips, yard work, or teaching his son about sports and playing catch. He takes the simple approach to life and work: “You get out what you put in.”

Oh, and there’s one other thing… Brian was literally born on the way to the hospital. In a van. On the side of Mount Hope Road in Lansing, right near an electrical substation. “Maybe the electrical current is why I am the way I am today,” he jokes. Whatever it is, it seems to be working.

We are so grateful to have you, Brian! You are such a valued member of our team at HRU.
