Security Officer

Science only moves when people, facilities, and sensitive work stay protected. In this role, you keep research sites, laboratories, and the people inside them secure—so critical work for government and industry continues without interruption. Your judgment on the floor is what turns policy into a safer, more secure operation.

Performance Objectives

  • Control access so only authorized personnel, visitors, and materials enter restricted areas, with complete, accurate logs every shift.
  • Patrol assigned facilities and detect, document, and escalate hazards, security breaches, or unusual activity before they disrupt operations.
  • Respond to alarms, medical events, and incidents with calm, procedure-driven action and clear handoff to supervisors and emergency partners.
  • Protect classified, proprietary, and laboratory areas by enforcing badging, escort, and material-control rules without exception.
  • Produce shift reports and incident records that leadership can act on the same day, with facts, times, and outcomes stated plainly.
  • Coach coworkers and contractors on site rules so compliance is consistent, not dependent on who is on post.
  • Close every shift with posts secured, equipment accounted for, and open issues transferred with no gaps.

Environment & Resources

You will work on-site with a security team that supports laboratories, offices, and controlled areas used for research and national-security programs. You report to a security supervisor, use established post orders, access-control and alarm systems, radios, and incident-reporting tools, and coordinate with facilities, laboratory, and emergency-response partners. Shifts may include nights, weekends, and holidays. Work is primarily standing, walking, and patrol; you must be able to respond quickly and work in proximity to controlled materials under required safety protocols.

Essential Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent, plus at least two years of security, military, law enforcement, or related protective experience in a facility with controlled access.
  • Demonstrated ability to enforce access rules, write clear incident reports, and stay composed during alarms and emergencies.
  • Working knowledge of patrol, visitor control, and basic alarm or CCTV monitoring.
  • Valid driver's license and the ability to meet physical demands of post and patrol duty, including standing for extended periods.
  • Eligibility for required background checks and, where assigned, government security clearance; sole U.S. citizenship may be required.
  • Professional communication with scientists, visitors, and leadership, and a record of following written procedures exactly.

Why This Role

  • Your work directly protects research that strengthens national security, health, and the environment.
  • You join a mission-driven nonprofit culture that values merit, teamwork, and doing the greatest good.
  • Comprehensive benefits support wellness, paid time off, retirement savings with an employer contribution, and tuition assistance.
  • Clear post orders and experienced supervisors give you the structure to perform—and the trust to use judgment when it counts.

If you are ready to keep critical work safe and accountable, apply now. Bring your record of disciplined security performance—we will put it to work.
