Rework Technician
When a mission-critical board fails first article or comes back from the field, the schedule depends on the person at the bench. You restore printed circuit assemblies so prototypes move, production holds, and hardware built for demanding aerospace and defense missions performs as designed. This is skilled rework with a direct line to reliability—not a supporting task on the side.
Performance Objectives
- Return discrepant PCB assemblies to engineering intent and accepted workmanship on the first completed rework cycle.
- Replace fine-pitch SMT and through-hole parts without lifted pads, neighbor damage, or latent defects.
- Isolate faults from schematics, assembly drawings, and bench measurements, then record a clear cause for engineering and quality.
- Execute engineering changes and prototype modifications so design updates land in hardware without slipping the build.
- Release only assemblies that meet Class 2 or Class 3 workmanship after microscope inspection.
- Cut repeat defects by feeding process issues back to manufacturing and engineering with timely, specific notes.
- Protect every job with correct ESD practice, traceability, and handling of export-controlled technical data.
Environment & Resources
You work with hardware engineering and manufacturing, reporting to a production or engineering supervisor. The bench includes a microscope, soldering and rework stations, and standard diagnostic instruments. The role is on site, with occasional travel to a nearby site. Full-time is preferred; part-time will be considered for the right technician. You will stand, lift up to about 40 lb, and work under a microscope for extended periods.
Essential Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent, with typically three or more years of progressive PCB rework or electronic assembly.
- Demonstrated solder and desolder skill on SMT, including fine-pitch work under a microscope.
- Ability to build and troubleshoot from schematics, wiring diagrams, assembly drawings, and test procedures.
- Working knowledge of IPC-7711/7721, with familiarity with IPC-A-610 Class 2 and Class 3.
- Eligibility to access information subject to U.S. export regulations (U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident, protected individual, or able to obtain required authorization).
- Preferred: associate degree in electronics, IPC-7711/7721 certification, use of oscilloscopes, DMMs, and signal generators, and prior aerospace, defense, or medical-device manufacturing.
Role Selling Points
- Your rework decides whether complex, safety-critical assemblies ship and stay in service.
- You see the full path from prototype modification through sustainment, not a single repetitive station.
- Skills training and tuition support back technicians who want to deepen the craft.
- Pay is set by experience, skill, and location, with health coverage, 401(k), employee stock purchase, paid time off, and a 9/80 schedule where offered.
- The team values straight communication, careful work, and people who help each other hit the result.
Call to Action
If you can make a board right and want that standard to matter, apply now.
